Venice Series
Cynthia Vandeveer 2014
The Venice Series is formally based
on a photograph of the pilings in the Venice lagoon. These pilings are also
what form the foundation for the entire city.
Venice, once referred to as La Serenissima, the serene city, and ritually
married to the sea, (Sposalizio del Mare), is quickly becoming a symbol
for the rising waters of climate change. Acqua Alta, (flooding) occurs more
than 50 times annually since 1980.
Sales of this work benefit Our Children's Trust and Preserve our Winters,
both groups are lobbying for climate change issues.
